From October 21, 2019 to March 19, 2020
During my first year of PhD (MMS Le Mans) I went on secondment to IMS (Institute of Marine Sciences, North Carolina, US) thanks to GHaNA project. My PhD subject is the study dynamic of Haslea blooms (North Carolina, US and Corsica, France) and the effect on epiphytic communities.
We did fieldwork in oyster leases (Sandbar Oyster Company) once a month to collect samples and then identify diatoms communities. In between, I was able to run experiments: to study the impact of blue Haslea booms and the marennine released on epiphytic and micro fauna community and to evaluate the impact of one environmental parameter (irradiance level) on the bloom dynamics.
